Celebrate Queen Victoria's 200th Anniversary at Flambards
Published: 9th May 2019Visitors can step back in time to celebrate Queen Victoria’s 200th birthday in the Victorian Village at Flambards on Friday, 24th May.
Walk on the cobbles of a 19th century street with more than 50 authentic shops, painstakingly recreated using thousands of genuine antique items.
Visit the confectioners, toy store, milliners, ironmongers, tobacconists, butchers, corsetière and a barbershop.
One of the highlights of the experience is the Chemist Shop Time Capsule which was operational during the Victorian era and then lay neglected for over 100 years after chemist William White died in 1909. Flambards rescued the shop and began the arduous task of moving it piece by piece, including the thousands of artefacts, to its new home.
“The Victorian Village really is something of a hidden gem and visitors are often surprised at the sheer scale and quality of the experience,” said Flambards’ Richard Smith.
“It’s not necessarily what you’d expect to come across in a theme park but people are delighted when they get to see the care and attention that has gone into recreating a bygone age and it’s the perfect spot to celebrate Queen Victoria’s bicentenary,” he added.
The Victorian Village is a labour of love for Flambards and the exhibition has won several national awards for its authentic reconstructions. These include original granite setts salvaged from Bath, and a wood block floor rescued from demolition diggers which tore through a Victorian school in the North of England.
With the village’s newest addition, time travellers can also explore the Victorian Village on a special ‘Who Dunnit’ mystery quiz trail for a truly Dickensian experience. Hunt down the clues as you venture around 50 different shops and scenes to solve the crime with family and friends.
- The Victorian Village will be open from 10am and last admission is 3pm before closing at 4pm on Friday 24th May to celebrate Queen Victoria’s 200th birthday. This will be an indoor attraction only day, the rides will not be open.
